The final decision on whether India will be able to organize the U-17 FIFA World Cup will be taken in the FIFA executive committee members meeting on March 20-21, next year in Zurich. It was earlier expected that FIFA would discuss something on this issue in their last members meeting, which was held in Tokyo.

But the governing body of world football did not take a call on the country’s bid for hosting the U-17 FIFA World Cup during the meeting.

“This was not part of the agenda in this meeting,” Shaji Prabhakaran, Regional Development Officer at FIFA, told PTI on last Sunday.

Meanwhile a couple of months earlier during his visit in India, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke mentioned giving an opportunity to India to host the U-17 FIFA World Cup, as this will give football a boost in the country. He also added that to host a huge event like the World Cup, India will have to produce world-class infrastructure and organization, there being no compromise regarding the facilities issue. He also warned that if India failed to produce any of these criteria, they India would not get permission to host this prestigious event.

The AIFF (All India Football Federation) have already put forward their bid to host the U-17 World Cup after getting the green signal from the government. Now we have to wait until next March to discover who will host the FIFA World Cup.
