U-18 Youth League: Shillong Lajong and Aizawl FC win their respective fixtures

Shillong Lajong FC will play against East Bengal in the semi-final

Shillong Lajong FC edged past FC Goa in their Under-18 Youth-League match while Aizawl FC outplayed Ozone Football Academy to secure three points in their last group stage match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday. The Shillong-based club qualified to the knockout stages of the tournament along with East Bengal, Kerala Blasters and Tata Football Academy.

Aizawl FC’s David Lalhlansanga broke the deadlock in the 47th minute while he netted a second to complete his brace in the 85th minute in their tie against Ozone Academy. Shillong Lajong FC took the lead in the 61st minute while FC Goa’s Lalawmpuia levelled the scores five minutes later. Donboklang Lyngdoh scored the winner in the 95th minute to maintain their all-win record.

Shillong Lajong finished at the top of the group with 9 points winning three in as many matches and qualifying to the semi-finals which are scheduled to be played on May 24th. Meanwhile, Aizawl FC leapfrogged Ozone Academy to finish at the third spot in Group ‘D’ of the playoffs.

From Group ‘A’, Tata Football Academy qualified to the knock-out stage eliminating SAI (Kolkata), Sudeva Moonlight and Sporting Goa who finished second, third and fourth respectively. East Bengal bagged 7 points from their quota of matches to secure the best place finish in Group ‘B’ putting SAI (Trivandrum), Pune City and Minerva Punjab at bay. Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters FC piped Bengaluru FC, DSK Shivajians and Bhaichung Bhutia Fs to qualify from Group ‘C’.

Tata Football Academy will face off with Kerala Blasters in the last four in a 3 pm kick-off on Thursday t the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium while East Bengal a will play against Shillong Lajong FC in a 7 pm kick-off at the same venue in the other clash. The final will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 26th.
