Arjuna Awardee and former Indian international Deepak Kumar Mondal has been named captain of Kolkata-based I-League side United SC for the second consecutive year.
Deepak Mondal said on his appointment as captain, “I am happy with my team’s performance last season, I hope this year also the team puts up some outstanding performances. I would request all to support the team so that United SC can become pride of the nation.”
Further this evening, 25 players signed for United SC at the IFA offices in Kolkata, amongst them the African trio of Bello Rasaq, Ranty Martins Soleye and new signing Eric Brown. But due to the late signing of the players, the first match against George Telegraph SC will be forfeited by GTSC as per IFA CFL tournament rules.
United SC has been trying for weeks since the pullout of former sponsors Prayag Group to find a financial replacement, but until now no new sponsorship has been found. But the players in a remarkable step have signed for United SC without any advance payment.
