United SC's I-league participation uncertain

Violence At Football Match In Kolkata

The passionate Kolkata football lovers are in danger of seeing one of their city clubs unable to participate in next season’s I-League.

United SC may find it difficult to participate in the upcoming seventh edition of the I-League due to the lack of sponsorship backing. This is the second club facing a similar problem after the All India Football Federation’s development side Palian Arrows.

Prayag Group who had been the sponsors of United thus far will be unable to do so after being hit by the chit fund scam in West Bengal.

“We are going through problems as far as sponsors are concerned. Prayag is no more our sponsors and we have been struggling ever since,” team director, Nabab Bhattacharya, said from Kolkata.

Yet he does not lose hope of finding a sponsor before the league gets underway.

He also revealed that a few political leaders have pledged their allegiance to the club.

United SC are home to some of the biggest names in the I-League including Nigerian striker Ranty Martins.

They have been on the lookout for sponsors over the past two months. But many suggest that is looks like an uphill road.
