Video: Clint Dempsey gets sent off for tearing referee's notebook

Clint Dempsey was sent off against Portland Timbers for tearing the referee’s notebook

Former Premier League star Clint Dempsey, currently plying his trade in the MLS for Seattle Sounders, is known to be an aggressive player, and he showed that by getting sent off for tearing the referee’s notebook. The Sounders ended the match with seven men and lost the game 3-1 to Portland Timbers in the US Open Cup 4th round.

The captain of the US national team, Dempsey, basically lost the plot when his teammate Michael Azira was shown a red card in the 112th minute with his team trailing Portland 2-1. The former Fulham star, who had earlier been shown a yellow card for arguing, went up to the referee Daniel Radford, snatched his notebook and just tore it.

He was then shown a red card by the referee, and that saw his team reduced to 7 men as prior to Azira, Brad Evans had been sent off in the 69th minute while Obafemi Martins had to go off with an injury with all three substitutions having been made.
