Wim Koevermans: Course very important for grassroots development

The All India Football Federation organised AFC ‘D’ Licence Coaching Programme, which concluded at IIT New Delhi earlier today, is a very important step towards Grassroots Development, according to National Coach Wim Koevermans.”This is very essential. I have been a part of Coach Education for long and I can tell you that D License Programmes are essential for Grassroots Development. You need good coaches to look after young players at the Grassroot level,” Koevermans said on the sidelines of the Practical Sessions at the IIT Complex. The Course, which started from Sunday, December 9 was conducted by Scott O’Donell, the Technical Director of the AIFF Regional Academies, who also is the Director of Coach Education. Besides, Mohammed Yusuf Ansari and Kundan Chandra were the two instructors looking after the 36 participants who went through practical and theory sessions over the last six days.

O’Donnell also echoed the same sentiment. “Grassroots stay on the top of our priority list and hence this course stays important. You need good Coaches for the Grassroots and the D License Course prepares you for that,” he maintained.

“You get to teach the kids and the instructors are there to guide you. You get to learn a lot. The participants are very enthusiastic and I am very happy with the way things are going,” O’Donell concluded.
