Agent Locke will not be an "equal" to the Master Chief in Halo 5: Guardians

While Agent Locke may have appeared in a ton of advertisements for Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries have assured fans that Locke will not be outshining the legendary Master Chief anytime soon.

GamesRadar recently had a chance to interview the 343i’s, Frank O’ Connor, who revealed more about the games story and characters. One such question was regarding Agent Locke, who has been featured in a lot of the games teaser art. GamesRadar felt that the developers were setting Locke up to an “equal” to the Master Chief. Connor responded that this was not the case.

“I would say definitely not”, he explained. “We don’t want to do that; we want the Chief to be in some ways above the fray – he’s literally a legend in the universe he inhabits.”

Connor also assured fans that the Master Chief is still the lead hero in Halo 5: Guardians. He described Agent Locke as a “useful cipher” for players to “to explore Master Chief’s character from an outside perspective.” But he does not want players to speculate how long they will get to play as Locke and the Master Chief.

Agent Locke has been featured in a number of advertisements for Halo 5: Guardians. The upcoming Halo: Nightfall TV will also be focused on Locke’s character a lot. So while he may not be on the same level as the Master Chief, Locke will still be a very prominent figure in the Halo universe from here on. Connor also stressed that every character in the game is important to the story.

Microsoft has stated that Halo 5: Guardians will be their biggest release for the year, 2015. The company has not revealed a release date for the game yet, but it is likely to be out by the end of the year.
