It seems that Siberia will not be the only location to explore in the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider. According to developers, Crystal Dynamics, the game will have a lot of varied places for players to discover.

Promotional artwork for the game shows protagonist Lara Croft trekking through a snowy location with a bow and arrow. The game is set in Siberia this time, and follows protagonist Lara Croft as she discovers an ancient city built by the Grand Prince of Vladimir in the 13th century. But snow capped mountains and valleys may get a tad bit mundane after a while, which is probably why Crystal Dynamics have added another explorable area for players to visit.

GameInformer had a chance to interview Rise of the Tomb Raider director, Brian Horton, who revealed a little more about the games environments that the player will be able to explore.

In his interview, Horton states that there is a “bubble of the world that exists outside of Siberia“, which the developed team has dubbed as “The Oasis”. Horton describes the “Oasis” as a place that is not snowy or cold. The location will be very different from Siberia in terms of weather and environment. Horton stressed the need for varied locations, stating that it was important for the game to not have a “single look”.

The team is quite proud of the work they have put into the games snow effects. Lara Croft will even be able to track animal prints in the snow, so it is likely that these effects will be very detailed and realistic. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be releasing later this year for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 as a timed exclusive.
