The creator of the Oddworld series, Lorne Lanning has stated that the decision to move Odworld from PlayStation to Xbox was a matter of survival. This was discussed at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas called “A Conversation with Shu Yoshida”, Lanning also stated a few reasons behind the move. He said that it had become unpredictable to plan and develop a game on the PlayStation 2 looking at their budget and he  also said that the cost of obtaining dev kits had become very difficult.

Now when the original Xbox was announced as a machine built for developers, it made development costs more predictable. "We were trying to survive,” he said. “It was a way to actually land and survive."

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty  was the first  game in the franchise that had made its debut on the PlayStation platform (PS4) last year, and  since then the series has  moved to the original Xbox with Munch's Oddysee in 2001. That sounds good. He said that the return to PlayStation was due to the easy availability of getting a dev kit, and also stated a surprising call he received from Sony. “'You guys want to be on PS4? We’ll send you a dev kit."

This proves that the PS4 has now got the environment that will be friendly to the developers and the indie community.
