Fans want a significant upgrade for Cristiano Ronaldo in FIFA 18

Ronaldo’s Team of the Year card in FIFA 17

What’s the story?

Cristiano Ronaldo fans worldwide are clamouring for a change in the star player’s attributes in FIFA 18. It has got to do with Ronaldo’s left foot, his supposedly weaker one. Fans began an entire thread on this matter on the FIFA sub-Reddit, pushing EA to upgrade Ronaldo’s rating in FIFA 18.

One fan had this to say, “Ronny is literally two-footed every game I watch. He deserves the five star. Also they’re not even tap-ins they’re great goals. It’s robbery that Ron and (Lionel) Messi both have four stars.”

Comparisons between Ronaldo and Messi are inevitable as Messi is supposed to be weaker on his right foot than Ronaldo is on his left foot.

Another fan said: “100 per cent agree… both of his feet are rocket launchers.”

The context

Ronaldo is predominantly right-footed but throughout his career, he has shown his adeptness with his left foot as well be it passing, dribbling or shooting. As recently as the Champions League quarter-final 2nd leg against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo scored a perfect hat-trick to display his all-round prowess and help Madrid win the match.

The heart of the matter

Ronaldo is the best player on FIFA 17, yet gamers aren’t happy with this particular stat. EA has awarded the Portuguese star’s weak foot rating a four star rather than a perfect five, despite some of his best strikes coming from his left foot.

Ronaldo has enjoyed another stellar campaign this season from a personal point of view, having racked up 39 goals so far. He is still in the running for two major titles, the La Liga and the Champions League. It puts him in a great position in the running for the Ballon d’Or.

What’s next?

Ronaldo’s top card made him somewhat of a Team of the Year beast and nearly unstoppable in FIFA 17 with a 99 rating. EA will only release the details on player ratings after a few months but it is highly anticipated that Ronaldo could be the best player on the game yet again.

Author’s take

It is no secret that gaming fans take FIFA ratings very seriously. More so, perhaps, for Ronaldo and Messi fans as they just want their idol to outdo the other in the game.
