Gearbox confirms Borderlands 3 not in development

If you are a fan of the Borderlands series and were hoping to hear some new details on a possible Borderlands 3 at PAX South, then you’re out of luck. It looks like the game series will not be getting a sequel anytime soon. Many fans that attended Gearbox’s Panel at PAX South were left disappointed when the team confirmed that Borderlands 3 was not in development.

Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has stated that “There is literally nothing to tell” regarding a new Borderlands game. Though Gearbox has stated they “need help” and are hiring more staff for their next game.

Pitchford has titled Gearbox’s next release as “the big one” and has stated that it is “Something we need to get started on soon. Some people already assume we’re working on a future Borderlands game. The fact is, we aren’t. We want to, and we want to get started soon, and we want some help.”

So even though Gearbox wants to get started on Borderlands 3, they cannot, as they are understaffed. Pitchford then requested developers who were attending the panel to join Gearbox and help them make a Borderlands 3 a reality. To conclude Pitchford’s statement, Borderlands 3 is not in development right now, but it will be once Gearbox is staffed up and ready to develop the game. And while the game is still a possibility, it’s likely that we won’t be hearing about it anytime soon.
