Naughty Dog states Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will have more realistic visuals

Nathan Drake will look like a film character in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Naughty Dog’s upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the year’s most anticipated releases for several reasons. Firstly, the game is the fourth entry in the popular Uncharted franchise, and secondly, fans are expecting the games graphics to be stunning, which isn’t too far from the truth. Naughty Dog is known for going the extra mile when it comes to visuals and they plan to do the same with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

The Last of Us developers are known to create games with stunning visuals, like Crash Bandicoot, which looked great for its time. The Uncharted trilogy itself looks amazing on the PS3. And now the team is planning to utilize the power of the PS4 to make A Thief’s End look as stunning as possible.

CG Master Academy recently interviewed Naughty Dog’s lead character artist, Frank Tzeng, who spoke about the games graphics. Tzeng stated that the Unchartered 4’s graphics are “really close to film right now”. As for the games protagonist Nathan Drake, Tzeng praised the characters design, stating me looked like a film character to me“.

Unlike the PS3, the PS4 allows more polygons on the screen, which means the team can now use high-poly models in the game. Because of this feature, they were able to add “high res maps” as well as more character expressions and details on the models. Tzeng explained that these advancements will help the video game industry to obtain movie-like visuals, which he expects will happen in a few years time. Judging by recent trailers for Uncharted 4, they seem to be getting there as expected.
