Planetside 2 closed beta for PS4 begins on January 20th

Planetside 2

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that their long awaited upcoming FPS Planetside 2 will finally go into closed beta for the PlayStation 4 later this month. Sony had originally planned to launch the beta back in 2014, but this was later delayed. The developers used this extra time in "refining, optimizing, and creating an amazing console version."

According to their press release on the PlayStation blog, only a few thousand invites will be sent out to PS4 players initially to ensure a “positive gameplay experience”. This will gradually increase throughout the closed beta period. Players will be invited in chronological order of when they signed up so it’s best to sign up early if you want a chance to try out Planetside 2 before its official launch. You can sign up for the closed beta here.

Sony states that the Planetside 2 beta will help developers “test the servers, performance, and various other aspects of the game”. As with any beta, the developers have encouraged players to send their constructive feedback and share their thoughts on the beta forums.

Planetside 2 is a Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter that released back in 2012 for the PC. Sony had announced that they would be releasing a console version of the game. The game has done extremely well, gaining a large following on the PC platform. The beta will commence on January 20th for North America. The full game will be out later this year for the PS4.
