Samsung Smart TV's to get PlayStation Now service in 2015

According to Sony’s latest press release, Samsung and Sony are now working together to bring the PlayStations streaming game service to Samsung’s Smart TV’s sometime next year. This means that Samsung’s new line of smart televisions will now be able to play PlayStation games without needing a PlayStation console.

So owners of Samsung Smart TV will be able to access PlayStation Now service in the first half of 2014 through Samsungs Smart Hub app. This in turns allows them to stream hundreds of PS3 games from cloud. The service also supports Dual Shock 4 controllers, although the controllers will have to be bought separately (they do not come with the TV). The streaming service also supports online gameplay, cloud game saves and in-game trophies.

PlayStation Now is a streaming service which is still in its beta stage, but if you are planning to get a Smart TV just for this then you will need to have a very good internet connection (at least 5Mbps). Also there aren’t many games to choose from as of now with just 200 PS3 titles, but Sony plans to offer some PS2 and PS4 titles soon even though the dates have not been announced yet.

The service is not free and owners will have to pay to use PlayStation Now, which basically means renting the games for a certain period of time. Games may also be purchased on PlayStation Now.

PlayStation Now had its North American launch back in July of this year. The service is already available on Sony Bravia TV’s and on PlayStation devices. Those attending CES 2015 will also be able to experience a hands-on preview of PlayStation Now at the Samsung booth.
