The free PS Plus Edition of Driveclub will not be available anytime soon

The free PS Plus version of the Driveclub may not be out anytime soon

Sony’s PS4 exclusive racing title Driveclub released back in 2014 to mixed reviews. The game was one of Sony’s highly anticipated PS4 titles, mainly because PS4 exclusive titles were still quite rare back then, plus PlayStation Plus members were also promised a free version of the game with their membership. The free version of the game wouldn’t feature everything from the original game but it still promised to offer a bulk of content for gamers to try out.

2014 proved to be a pretty bad year for many releases and Driveclub was no exception. The game had a pretty rocky launch with many players complaining of multiple glitches and network issues. Sony was then forced to focus all their efforts in patching and fixing the title. Because of this, the team had to keep the free PS Plus version of the game on hold. And according to a recent interview with PlayStation Europe CEO, Jim Ryan, this hold might be longer than expected.

Metro asked Ryan if there was still going to be a free version of the game, to which Ryan answered that it’s “still being looked at.” Metro went on to ask Ryan if he could guarantee this would happen, but he responded “I can’t say anything at this stage.” So while the PS Plus version is still a possibility, it’s likely that it won’t release anytime soon. But with the games many issues now patched out, many gamers were hoping for the free version. Too bad they will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the free version.

Ryan also stated that Sony has learned from its mistakes with the Driveclub launch. Hopefully we’ll be seeing less buggy games from them in the future. Driveclub is now available exclusively for the PS4. The game also received a free Japan DLC last month, the details of which you can check out here.
