USPTO cancels Trademark for Blizzards upcoming game OverWatch
The upcoming game by Blizzard.

Blizzard is currently facing issues with their upcoming game OverWatch trademark which has apparently been cancelled by the authorities at USPTO. The organization has taken this step to avoid the confusion between this team based shooter game and a mobile app which has already been registered and bears the same name. According to a report by NeoGAF, two applications submitted in regard with the games registration have been embolished with the statement “pending the ultimate disposition” and are dated January 9 2015.

The mobile app has higher precedence since they applied for the trademark first. Blizzard may have to rethink the branding they want to impart to this enterprise or they could offer a fight to retain this original title by applying an appeal against the suspension thus giving a fair fight to retain the original brand. The scales however may not weigh in their favor since the other enterprise applied for the trademark first. For now it is evident that we need to keep an open mind in regard with the subject of the change in the name of the game.
