There are many therapies people use to relieve all kinds of stress. There are the clinical and medical therapies, the counselling and behavioural therapies, and meditation or yoga as a therapy to name a few.

But there are some people who take things a little further and turn to the adrenaline filled world of extreme sports to relieve their stress. There must be an intense level of stress in their daily lives for danger-filled extreme sports to work as a therapy!

The Physical Effects of Extreme Sports

The major effect of participating in a danger-filled sport is the adrenaline rush; just knowing that you could be seriously injured or even killed with one misjudged move is enough to get the adrenaline pumping and the blood racing.

But stress too is a killer right? It seems to be a ‘devil and a deep blue sea’ situation. Do you let the stress of your job kill you, or do you take the chance of participating in something that is just as stressful but adrenaline-fuelled, so that if you do fall, get injured or even killed, it is the result of your actions rather than the invisible force of stress.

extreme sports

Extreme sports are considered to be counter cultural, as they allow us to seek out danger rather than abide by our inherent desire to keep ourselves safe.

Stress Relieving

Both men and women find that the adrenaline rush they experience whilst participating in extreme sports is a stress reliever, and it becomes a way of coping with the outside stresses that impact on the minds and bodies every day.

Other people may choose to work off their stress in a gym, or relax it all away during meditation or prayer, but for those people with a love of the extreme, the more sedate methods simply won’t work, and will lead to a further build-up of stress and frustration that needs to be worked out.

Options

There are many sports to choose from when you choose extreme sports as a way to relieve your stress, but just because you are working in a really stressful environment does not mean that you have to choose the most extreme sport to combat that stress. Some of the most popular stress relieving sports are the ones that take the individual out of the world that they know and place them in a totally alien environment where they have the freedom to move, without restriction and constraint.

Sports such as skydiving and sky surfing are popular, as are other sports that allow the freedom of movement that being in an open space gives you. Speed is also popular: racing cars, speedboats and anything that allows you to hurtle around at insane speeds seems to be enough to blow away more than just the cobwebs, but also somehow out run your stress. No matter what methods you find helpful when it comes to beating your stress, remember to stay as safe as possible at all times.
