Indian football: About time, to Step up

Indian football the time has come

Yes my friends, the time is now.

Indian Football has again come to an important junction. Now its up to us and the Indian FA to step on the gas and get things going, or, to let this moment pass by, just like the several others in the last few decades.

Sunil Chhetri is now the third Indian player to play for a club abroad, and 8th Asian player to play the MLS league in the USA. The same league which one of the world’s most famous player, David Beckham was a part of with Los Angeles Galaxy.

To make it to the starting 11 should be the priority in Sunil’s mind, as he did manage to start and play a full game in Arizona with the team’s pre-season friendlies. He was able to impress assistant coach of the Wizards, Kerry Zavagnin but the head coach has the final call. With strikers like American Josh Wolff, Hungarian Zoltán Hercegfalvi and Sierra Leonean Kei Kamara in the squad, Sunil has to be at his best form ever.

This milestone will now also see scouts and coaches of different teams searching for upcoming talents in our country.

India was lost in the global football Radar, but now it looks like the sleeping giant is waking up. India’s qualification to the AFC Cup 2011 and Sunil’s transfer has just boosted the morale of footballers around our nation. And for the generation to come, they surely believe that there is not only a hope now, but also a way. :)
