Archery

Jharkhand pipped Manipur 6-2 to clinch gold in the Recurve mixed team event. West Bengal beat Assam in the bronze medal playoff. Earlier in the day, Jharkhand got the better of West Bengal 6-2,while Manipur beat Assam 5-3 to book their place in the final.

Jharkhand continued their dominance in the Recurve women’s team event as well after beating Manipur 6-2 to win gold. West Bengal settled for bronze overcoming Assam 5-3.

In a one-sided Recurve men’s team final, Uttar Pradesh beat Assam 6-0 to bag gold. Services added another medal to its impressive medal tally with a bronze after their 6-2 win over Jharkhand.

Jharkhand added another gold with a fine 7-3 win over Assam in the recurve women’s event. Majhi Laxmi Rani beat Assam’s Saini Satbir Kaur in the final. Seema Verma upset Deepika Kumari 6-2 to settle for bronze.

In an all Services final, Tarundeep Rai beat Gurucharan Besra to claim gold. Dheeraj beat Marandi Bulbul 4-2 to finish in third place.

Athletics

Athletics events got underway at the National games. In the decathlon event, Abhishek N Shetty of Karnataka jumped 6.73 m in the long jump and finished 100 m in 11.41 seconds to walk away with top honors. Raneesh Vazhavalappil of Kerala clinched silver with his effort of 6.71 m in long jump and 11.53 seconds finish in 100 m. Boota Singh of Services came third with a best effort of 6.49 m in long jump and a finish of 11.73 seconds in 100 m.

As far as Shot put is concerned, Abhishek’s best effort was 12.58 m, Vikas of Delhi came second with a throw of 12.13 m. Jagtar Singh of Delhi and Raneesh finished in third place with a throw of 11.55 m.

O P Jaisha showed why she is one of the best runners in the country with a fine run to clinch gold in the 5000 m event. She finished with a time of 15:31.37 seconds. Lalita Babar and Swati Gadhave made it two and three for Maharashtra with timing of 15:46.73 seconds and 16:26.06 seconds respectively.

Badminton

It was the first day of badminton action as well with both men’s and women’s events kicking off things at the badminton center. In the semifinals, Telangana beat Goa 2-0. Telangana’s Rituparna Das beat Goa’s Anura Desai 21-17, 12-21, 21-5. Anura did not put up a fight allowing Rituparna to dictate play in the crucial third game. In the doubles event, Sikki Reddy and Meghana Jakkampudi beat the pair of Anushka Kuvelkar and Anura 21-9, 21-16.

Kerala beat Maharashtra 2-0 in the other semifinal. Thulasi Chandrika beat Sayali Ghokale 21-10,21-13 in the singles encounter. It was a much closer doubles match with Aparna Balan and Arathi Sara prevailing 18-21, 21-14, 21-13 over Sanyogita Ghorpade and Prajakta Sawant.

Fencing

In the men’s foil, Vinoth Kumar of Services beat Tombasingh Laishram of Maharashtra 15-10 to win the gold. In a closely contested Women’s Epee final, Kerala’s Dilna edged Assam’s Kabita Devi 15-14 to win gold. Bhavani Devi added more joy to Kerala as she outclassed Punjab’s Komalpreet Shukla 15-6 to win gold.
