D’Souza pulled off a huge upset against Virdhawal Khade today

Day seven of the 2015 National Games saw no change at the top as Services led the medal tally with 42 gold medals. Maharashtra and Haryana will fight it out for the second position as they both have 26 golds each, the former leads with more medals in their overall count.

The day’s marquee event was the 100m freestyle event, which saw Madhya Pradesh’s Aaron D’souza win gold in an edge of the seat encounter. He finished milliseconds ahead of comeback king, Virdhawal Khade.

So, here is day seven’s round-up of the National Games.

Shooting

Services won gold in the Men’s team 25m rapid pistol event, increasing their lead at the top of the medals tally. Haryana finished in the silver medal position as Maharashtra rounded up the medal spots.

The Men’s individual 25m pistol saw Services’ Kumar Vijay take gold as Harpreet Singh from Haryana took silver. Maharashtra mimicked the team event’s standings, winning the bronze medal.

The team 10m Air pistol for Women saw Punjab take gold with a score of 1739.30. Haryana took silver scoring 1730.26 points and Uttar Pradesh finished in the bronze medal position (1723.28).

Water Polo

Kerala won the women’s water polo event, defeating West Bengal, 6-1.

Cycling

Rajani V from Kerala won gold in the cycling 72 km road mass. Haryana’s Seema Rani won silver. Kerala made it a double delight as Anjitha TP won bronze.

The Men’s 36 km event saw Karnataka’s Naveen John, who finished the race in 50:08.047. Maharashtra’s Arvind Panwar took the silver medal, 20 seconds behind the leader. Amit Jangara from the Services won bronze.

Swimming

The major event of the day in swimming was the Men’s 100m freestyle, which saw Aaron D’Souza take gold ahead of Virdhawal Khade. Gujarat’s Anshul Kothari took bronze in a closely fought encounter.

Shivani Katria from Haryana won gold for Haryana in the 100m freestyle event for women. Aditi Dhumatkar from Maharashtra won silver as Goa’s Talasha Prabhu won a rare medal for Goa.

Sandeep Sejwal from Madya Pradesh continued his domination of the Breaststroke events winning gold in the 100m distance. Haryana’s Puneet Rana took silver and Anoop Augustine from Kerala won bronze.
