In the wake of the media exposing the dearth of facilities at the National Para-Athletics Championship, the Paralympic Committee of India, taking cognisance of the issue has suspended it’s President Rajesh Tomar.

The athletes had to suffer the lack of the most basic amenities such as clean drinikng water in addition to not having access to clean bathrooms. The athletes were asked to take up residence in an under-construction building in Ghaziabad, one which mas not conducive to the physically challenged. Moreover, both men and women were forced to use the same bathrooms.

While conceding that some part of the blame needed to taken up by his officials, shifted most of it onto the government which he accused of not providing sufficient funds and for its inability to make propoer arrangements for a venue.

"I had approached the ministry to provide their facility to host the event but Sports Authority of India refused saying that their venues are being used by abled-bodied athletes. I did not have a venue to host the event. So, I said yes when the Uttar Pradesh unit of the PCI offered to host the event," Tomar said.
