Video: 15-year-old solves 3x3 Rubik's Cube in 4.69 seconds, creates world record

15-year-old Patrick Ponce was participating in a Rubik's cube competition where took just 4.69 seconds to solve a 3x3 cube,.setting a world record in the process. The tournament was held in Virginia on September 2nd, earlier this month.

Ponce has taken part in 40 competitions and has solved 1694 cubes. He also holds various personal records for solving other types of cubes. His repertoire includes Rubik's Cube, 2x2x2 Cube, 4x4x4 Cube, 5x5x5 Cube, 6x6x6 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, 3x3x3 Blindfolded, 3x3x3 Fewest Moves. 3x3x3 One Handed, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb, Square-1 and 4x4x4 Blindfolded.

He also has a number of medals to his name. To be precise, he has 54 gold, 31 silver and 12 bronze medals that he won at numerous events.

Ponce took over the world record from Australia's Feliks Zemdegs who took 4.73 seconds to solve a 3x3 Rubik's Cube. Feliks set the record on 11th December 2016 at the POPS Open competition in Melbourne, Australia.

He will have to be wary of his record as more and more expert Rubik's Cube solvers are setting sub 5-second times. So it is only a matter of time until someone else breaks Ponce's record. But until then, the American teenager can bask in his moment of glory.

While Patrick's feat is impressive, one must note that a robot set a time of 0.887 seconds in March 2017. Admittedly, humans cannot reach the level of robots but we can be sure that we can try our hardest to get close.
