West Indies vs Bangladesh

4 Jul 2018 - 5 Aug 2018

The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to play against the West Indies in all formats of cricket when they tour the Caribbean islands from late June to early August 2018. The Bangladeshis are scheduled to play two Test matches, three ODI matches and three T20 internationals with the last two T20I games being hosted in Florida.

The Series

Bangladesh begin their tour of the Caribbean with a two-day tour match at Antigua on 27th and 28th June. They then play the first test match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from July 4-8. From Antigua, the teams fly over to Jamaica for the second and final test match from July 12-16.

On 19th July, Bangladesh play a practice 50-over game against UWI Vice Chancellor’s XI in Jamaica. They move to Guyana for the first couple of ODI games on 22nd and 25th July. The teams play the final ODI match of the series in St. Kitts on July 28th.

St. Kitts will host the first T20I between the nations on 31st July as well before the teams fly over to the United States to play the final two T20Is on 4th and 5th August.

Last Series

Bangladesh toured the West Indies for the last time in 2014. They played three ODI's starting with the first one at Grenada on 20th August 2014. West Indies won a nervy match by three wickets. The sides met two days later in the same venue where the Bangladeshis capitulated to a 177-run loss chasing 248 for victory. West Indies would wrap up the series 3-0 with a win in Basseterre.

The teams met again in Basseterre on 27th August 2014 in the shortest format of the game. The match produced a no contest due to heavy rain.

The teams took part in a two-match Test series to conclude the tour. Bangladesh did not stand any chance in the series as they lost both the matches quite heavily.

Background

Bangladesh head into this series, having lost a three-match T20I series against Afghnistan in Dehradun. They were flummoxed by the Afghan spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Prior to that, they reached the final of the Nidahas Trophy before losing a close match against India in the final of the tournament that also involved Sri Lanka.

West Indies on the other hand, will play Sri Lanka in a full-fledged tour before the Bangladeshis arrive in the islands.

Change in schedule

The series was originally scheduled to be held in February 2018 but was pushed to July due to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. Both the cricket boards of the participating teams agreed to the change.

Cricket in USA

The last couple of T20Is are scheduled to be held in Lauderhill, Florida as Cricket West Indies continues its efforts to realise the untapped potential of cricket in United States of America.

CWI chief executive Johnny Grave said, “Both matches are scheduled for the weekend and will be played under the lights. Our intention is to work with ICC Americas members, USA Cricket & Cricket Canada in partnership to establish cricket as a popular sport from North to South America."
