The DP World Tour season is heading towards its conclusion, with the season finale event set to take place this week. The top 50 players in the Race to Dubai standings after the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will be heading to the DP World Tour Championship.
The event will take place from November 14 to 17 at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. It will feature a stellar field of players including Rory McIlroy, who is leading the Race to Dubai rankings, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, and Billy Horschel, among others.
However, some big names, including Jon Rahm, who is eligible to play in the tournament, will be missing from the field. Here are the top golfers who will miss the 2024 DP World Tour Championship this week.
5 big name golfers who are not playing the DP World Tour Championship
#1 Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm finished 38th in the standings and is eligible to play, but he has decided not to enter the field for the DP World Tour Championship. The LIV golfer needed to play in four European Tour events to retain his membership and become eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The Spanish golfer has already achieved this target with his last outing at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía event, and will not feature in the upcoming tournament.
#2 Viktor Hovland
Another big name fans will miss at the DP World Tour Championship is Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland. He has played in very limited events this season on the PGA Tour and did not compete in any DP World Tour events. Ranked 83rd on the list, Hovland is not eligible to compete at the DP World Tour Championship as he finished outside the top 50 in the Race to Dubai standings.
#3 Ludvig Aberg
Another eligible golfer who will miss the DP World Tour Championship is Ludvig Åberg. The Swedish golfer finished 21st in the standings and is eligible to play in the competition. However, he has not entered the tournament.
Åberg has been struggling with a knee injury and has not played in any tournaments since the completion of the Tour Championship, a PGA Tour event, earlier this year.
#4 Matthieu Pavon
Matthieu Pavon became a household name in France after winning the Farmers Insurance Open in 2024, as he became the first French golfer to win on the PGA Tour in more than a century. He had a good start to the season but struggled in the tournaments as the year progressed.
On the DP World Tour, he finished fifth at the Porsche European Open but had some rough outings as well. He settled in 61st place in the Race to Dubai standings, failing to make it to the DP World Tour Championship.
#5 Nicolai Hojgaard
Nicolai Højgaard will also miss the DP World Tour Championship as he finished outside the top 50 in the standings. He finished T13 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, a DP World Tour playoff event. With his decent finish, he jumped eight spots in the Race to Dubai standings and secured the 59th position but was unable to meet the ranking eligibility for the DP World Tour Championship.
