The second round of the Paris Olympics golf event concluded on Friday, August 2, proving that the battle for the gold medal will go down to the wire. The day ended with a three-way tie for first place and 12 players in the top 10.Xander Schauffele once again led the American team, carding a 5-under 66 with seven birdies and two bogeys. That moved him into a tie for first place on the Paris Olympics leaderboard, along with Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood.Schauffele parred the 1st and bogeyed the 2nd after missing a putt inside 10 feet. But he quickly recovered and birdied the next three holes, then made three pars and a birdie on the final four holes of the front nine.On the back nine, Schauffele played the first three holes in birdie, birdie, par. He had his second setback of the round on the 13th, when he sent his tee shot into the left rough, and his second shot went only 87 feet down the fairway.He tried to save par with a 44-foot putt, but ended up making bogey. He birdied the next hole and finished the round with pars on the final four holes.Scottie Scheffler is the second-highest placed player on the U.S. Olympic team. He is tied for T10 at 6-under. His round included one double bogey and four birdies.Collin Morikawa had four birdies and one bogey on Friday to improve to 4-under for the tournament. He also moved up the leaderboard and is now tied for 19th.The fourth American Olympic golfer, Wyndham Clark, also improved on his day one performance. Clark carded six birdies, one bogey and one double bogey for a 3-under round.However, he is still carrying the weight of his first day and his score after 36 holes is 1-over.
