LIV Golfer and Majesticks GC co-captain Ian Poulter recently visited Orlando, Florida, with the children's charity organization Dreamflight based in the UK and shared glimpses of his time there via his social media. Every year, Dreamflight takes children with a serious illness or disability on a magical holiday to Orlando.
With the 2024 LIV Golf season concluded in September, the 48-year-old British golfer took time away from the greens to spend time with the Dreamflight kids. Later on, he shared a few pictures of his heartwarming week on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
"It’s always hard to put into words how much each year of @Dreamflight means to me. Bringing these wonderful children over from the UK to the parks here in Orlando for a week that genuinely changes their lives forever. Friendships that last a lifetime, memories they make amongst each other, and the smiles on their faces throughout the whole trip. As Walt Disney said, 'Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.' And obviously, a massive shout out to @DreamflightPat and all those that work to make this happen."
Poulter is one of the patrons of Dreamflight and is passionate about his charitable work. He accompanies the children to Orlando each year and enjoys his time with the children.
Ian Poulter reveals how he joined Dreamflight: "The volunteers and what they give back really transformed me"
Ian Poulter joined Dreamflight in 2009 and has been associated with them for over 15 years. The 48-year-old professional golfer organizes a golf day every year to raise funds for Dreamflight and has reportedly raised around $1.6 million in 2022.
During an interview in December 2022, Poulter revealed how Dreamflight transformed his life and why he decided to get associated with this children's charity. He said (via Sky News Australia on YouTube):
"The volunteers and what they give back to Dreamflight really transformed me when I met Aiden in 2009 just across the pond over there at Orlando International Airport," Poulter said (5:00 onwards).
"And it just blew me away. It really did. It was very special to see. You know how these kids transform their personalities, change their confidence, and it was at that time that I was like, Okay, I need to do more. I need to give back more. I want to try and build an amazing golf day in which we can try and raise as much money as possible," he added.
With the help of the golf community and various CEOs, Ian Poulter managed to raise $1.6 million in 2022 and $1.1 million in 2023. The funds, according to Ian, would aid Dreamflight in looking after the travel arrangements and give the kids a lifetime experience. He also organized the Ian Poulter Charity Classic golf tournament each year since 2018 and has managed to raise more than $5,300,000 for various charity organizers, primarily for Dreamflight.
Additionally, the British golfer also organized a 2020 COVID-19 Fundraiser event and managed to raise over $62,000.
