The India Learn Golf Week (ILGW), a one of it’s kind initiative to grow and spread the game in the country, got underway amidst nationwide enthusiasm and support across the 26 participating clubs and 15 cities of India. ILGW is an initiative of the Golf Industry Association (GIA) in partnership with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), the National Golf Association of India (NGAI), Golf Course Superintendents and Managers Association of India (GCS &MAI) as well as the globally acclaimed Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America.
The week is in full flow with each of the clubs receiving around 50-60 registrations per day and per club. In the first three days of ILGW, major participation has been seen from youngsters and school students. Day two of the ILGW also saw the participation of Kiran More, former Indian cricketer and chairman of the BCCI selection committee, at the Panchkula Golf Club.
The India Learn Golf Week (ILGW), a weeklong programme will continue till October 1,2017.
It will aim to initiate 20,000 new golfers to the game, making it the largest such initiative to infuse new talent into the sport at one go.
The long-term objective of the ILGW initiative is to attract 100,000 new golfers over a period of five years.
India Learn Golf Week: How it will play out
Participating clubs will assign three to five coaches for each of the seven days to deliver introductory golfing lessons from curricula approved by the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America. Each coach will have five students in a session and will conduct five sessions in a day.
