2023 WGC-Dell Match Play Round 1 leaderboard explored 

The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play is underway at the Austin Country Club from March 22 to March 26. The defending champion Scottie Scheffler is headlining this week's PGA Tour event alongside the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions winner Jon Rahm and the 2023 Dessert Classic winner Rory McIlroy.

After the first round was completed on Wednesday, March 22, Scheffler registered his victory over Davis Riley. McIlroy also won the opening round over Scott Stallings, while Rickie Fowler overtook Jon Rahm.

After missing the cut at The Players Championship, McIlroy replaced his driver at the Austin field. Speaking about his new driver, the Northern Irish golfer said as quoted by Golf Monthly:

"It was good. I made six birdies and one bogey and I played solid. I just needed to change it up a bit going back to a driver length that I'm a little more comfortable with. I needed to go to a slightly softer shaft and I can hit more shots with it and feel a bit more comfortable sort of playability-wise. Obviously this part of the season you've got one eye on what you're doing now and one eye on Augusta. It's trying to do both.”

Sixty-four of the world’s best golfers are competing in the tournament to gain a spot in the top 16 to play the final on Sunday, March 29.
