2024 Open de España Round 1 suspended: Provisional leaderboard explored

The 2024 acciona Open de España presented by Madrid started this Thursday, September 26, at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. The round had to be suspended due to darkness with only one player remaining.

Only Pedro Figueiredo was unable to finish his round and he will start on Friday with his second shot from the right rough on the 18th hole. Angel Hidalgo leads the Open de España at 6-under.

Angel Hidalgo carded an eagle, six birdies, and two bogeys in the first round of the Open de España. The Spaniard is looking for his first win on the DP World Tour.

After his first round at the Open de España, Hidalgo had this to say (via DP World Tour News Service):

"I played really, really good today. It's a long time since I stroked the putts as well as today. Unlucky the last few shots, two bad swings with the irons, but pretty happy and looking forward the next three days."

Two-time major champion and three-time winner of the Open de España, Jon Rahm, is tied for fifth place, three shots off the lead. Rahm had five birdies and two bogeys in the first round.

Defending champion Matthieu Pavon had three birdies and two bogeys for a 1-under score. He is tied for 12th place going into the second round.
