Rico Hoey tied him with seven birdies and two bogeys, while Kevin Streelman carded an eagle, four birdies and a bogey.Whitney and Hoey are each seeking the first victory of their PGA Tour careers. Streelman, meanwhile, is looking for his third.After his performance in the first round of the World Wide Technology Championship, Tom Whitney had this to say to the PGA Tour News Service:"Starting the day on this golf course you’re thinking, 'I need to get it to 6, 7, 8,' Then the wind starts blowing and you kind of temper those expectations. I’m very pleased with 5 under."Defending champion Erik van Rooyen remains in contention for the title, just one shot off the lead. The South African had six birdies and two bogeys in the first round.
