Argentina vs France football brawl trickles to golf at the Paris Olympics as Alejandro Tosti gets booed on the first tee

Alejandro Tosti was booed on the first tee of the third round at the Olympic Golf men's competition on Saturday, August 3. The event is being held at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.

Golf Digest reported that Argentinian player Alejandro Tosti was booed by the local crowd in the third round after the football quarterfinal match between Argentina and France on Friday night.

France won the match 1-0 owing to an early goal by Jean-Philippe Mateta. However, skirmishes broke out between players of the French and Argentinian teams and were broken up after a few minutes. The Argentinian players faced booing and hostility by the French crowd.

The football brawl trickled to Le Golf National when Tosti walked up for his first tee. He started well with a birdie on the first hole and was cheered by the crowd. He finished the round with a score of 2-under 69.

He scored four birdies on 1st, 6th, 8th, and 9th on the front nine. He scored a birdie on par-5 14th before faltering with a double bogey on the 15th and a bogey on the 18th.

Alejandro Tosti carded 68 and 69 in the first two rounds. He is currently tied on 18th with an aggregate score of 7-under 206. He is seven shots behind Xander Schauffele who was 14-under with three holes to go on Saturday. Tosti would have to go all out on Sunday for a medal at the 2024 Olympics.

Overall, the crowd at Le Golf National has cheered and celebrated golfers in the first two rounds. Talking about it, Tommy Fleetwood said (via Olympic Golf):

"The crowd has been absolutely amazing. It's a different set of supporters than what we get week-in and week-out. It's a very Olympic crowd and atmosphere and it's been great."
