Brooks Koepka could join Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and others in a unique major winner's club this week. He was one of the 14 LIV golfers to play at the 2025 US Open and was in T3 after the first round.
Koepka won the US Open in 2017 and 2018. He defeated Brian Harman and Hideki Matsuyama in 2017 to win the US Open with a 16-under. In 2018, he defeated Tommy Fleetwood to win the US Open with a 1-over.
Apart from US Open trophies, Koepka also has three PGA Championship triumphs in 2018, 2019 and 2023. Therefore, as of now, he has a total of five majors, and if he wins a sixth one at the 2025 US Open, he will join Woods, Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Bobby Jones in a club with golfers who have six major tournament victories with 3+ US Open wins.
The X handle named Kyle Porter shared about the same and wrote a caption, which read:
“Golfers with six majors, including 3+ U.S. Opens. Jack, Tiger, Hogan, Jones, Brooks (with a win this week).”
Brooks Koepka will play the second, third, and fourth rounds of the tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Brooks Koepka shared about his round two experience at the US Open
Brooks Koepka joined the US Open press conference on June 12 to talk about his first round at the Oakmont Country Club. He shared how he played well on the bunkers and missed a shot on Hole 14.
Koepka said, via ASAP Sports:
“I thought I played pretty consistent, drove it really well. Iron play was pretty good. When I did miss it, I felt like I missed it in the correct spots. A couple of good bunker shots. I missed one little short one on 14 maybe. Other than that, I thought I played very solid. I'm really happy with the way I finished, and hopefully it leads into tomorrow.”
Brooks Koepka continued to share his thoughts on his position at the tournament. He said:
“Yeah, I feel good. It's nice to put a good round together. It's been a while. I've been working hard, just got into some bad habits and bad swing positions. We worked pretty hard last week, Pete Cowen and Jeff Pierce were on me pretty good…It's been so far off, it's on opposite sides, but now it's starting to click.”
Brooks Koepka finished in T3 along with Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im after the first round of the US Open by scoring 2-under. He shot 68 in the first round with one eagle on hole four and two birdies on holes 17 and 18.
