DeChambeau is currently positioned ninth in the LIV Golf individual standings for the 2024 season. In 12 starts, he has had six top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 finishes. Last year, he finished fourth in the standings.

In the pre-tournament press conference, Bryson DeChambeau was asked if he or his team members from Crushers GC have superstitions. The LIV Golfer said (ASAP Sports):

"Real quickly, there's a ball marker that I use; it's a dollar coin and I always flip it over whenever I move marks, move my mark over if it's in the line of somebody. I just move it over and I flip the coin over to tails so that I know I flipped it over," he said.

In golf, a ball marker is used to mark the position of a golf ball when another player is making their shot and the ball needs to be removed temporarily for them to putt without interference. If the marker isn't returned to its original position, the player is awarded a penalty.

DeChambeau shared that he faced the issue at the age of 11 during a junior tournament when he forgot to return his marker to its original position which was later reminded to him by his father. He said that it caused a brief controversy about whether he should face a penalty or not.

"But ultimately I'll never forget, that was the moment that changed me forever in regards to that, to always flip your coin over whenever you're moving the mark. That's something that's kind of superstitious but not really and it's a dollar coin," DeChambeau added.

Bryson DeChambeau will tee off at 12:15 ET with Brooks Koepka and Dean Burmester in the first round of LIV Golf Chicago on Friday.

Bryson DeChambeau holds off on writing scores until nine scores for focus

In the same pre-tournament press conference, Bryson DeChambeau further opened up about his scorekeeping routine. The World No. 10 was asked if he and his team members follow any superstitions on the course, to which DeChambeau responded (via ASAP Sports):

"I can tell you for me, I don't really write my scores down until after nine holes. That's always a thing I've done since I was a kid. It's more of a routine thing than anything."

He said that if he makes bogeys or misses a bad putt, he tends to write the score down as it helps him mentally reset. He said:

"There are times where if I feel like if I make a couple bogeys in a row or do something I shouldn't be doing or I miss a bad putt, I write the score down, and it kind of is like, all right, I'm done with that. My brain, I remove myself from that and start fresh. It's not really a superstition, more of like a mental clarity, sort of setting a precedent thing."
