The 2024 John Deere Classic is underway at the TPC Deere Run course in Silvis, Illinois. Jordan Spieth carded an opening round score of two under par to sit tied for 98th place and 11 shots off the lead.
During the 2013 and 2015 editions of the John Deere Classic, Spieth shot opening round scores of one under par 70 and level par 71 respectively. Despite the mediocre start, he went on to take home the title in both years. Spieth is seemingly drawing confidence from his past starts and said at the end of Round 1 (via the PGA Tour):
"Done it before. I can do it again. ”
Currently sitting outside of the projected cut line of four under par, Spieth needs a round of two under par or better to move inside the line and play in the weekend rounds. He will be looking to improve his performance to stay in contention and earn his third John Deere Classic title.
