The 2024 DP World Tour Championship is set to be played at Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 14-17. The 16th edition of the event will take place as part of the inaugural DP World Tour playoffs and will follow the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The competition is set to host some of golf’s biggest names, including reigning Race to Dubai champion Rory McIlroy.
With less than a month to go, the European circuit officials have announced ‘significant changes’ to the season-ending event’s first tee. According to DP World Tour’s Director of Middle East, Tom Phillips, the circuit will have fresh changes implemented to improve the spectator experience.
The official in charge said that the Dubai competition’s first tee will now have increased seating areas which will provide a ‘stadium-like experience.’ The circuit noted that the changes are being introduced to ‘boost the overall spectator experience’ while benefitting the players teeing up.
Tom Phillips said, as quoted by europeantour.com:
“With less than one month to go, golf fans attending this year’s DP World Tour Championship will notice significant changes made to the first tee, which now includes seating areas allowing for larger numbers, providing a stadium-like experience and ensuring optimum views as the players tee off…
"We are continually assessing ways in which we can further develop the offerings at our events, and we believe these additions to the first tee will not only boost the overall spectator experience, but also benefit the players and add to the atmosphere.”
The DP World Tour Championship is also selling ‘Ticket+’ to enhance the fan experience. According to the circuit’s website, the ‘Ticket+’ priced at $46 (Thursday/Friday) and $106 for (Saturday/Sunday) will give access to a party hosted by an MC and featuring live music throughout the day.
The extra ticket will also allow fans to improved views of the par 3 17th hole and access the 18-hole golf course.
Who is playing in the 2024 DP World Tour Championship?
The DP World Tour Championship, teeing off in November, will feature a stacked field. The event will be headlined by World No. 3 and reigning Race to Dubai champion Rory McIlroy. The ace golfer will come into the competition after a break from the European circuit. It is pertinent to note that the 35-year-old started his year in the competition with a T2 finish in Dubai at the Dubai Invitational.
McIlroy will be joined by the likes of Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Adam Scott on the DP World Tour Championship field. Billy Horschel, who claimed his second BMW PGA Championship in September, will also compete. Olympic silver medalist Tommy Fleetwood, who started his year by beating McIlroy to the Dubai Invitational trophy, is another name to watch at the UAE event.
Genesis Scottish Open winner Robert MacIntyre will also be on the season-ending Rolex Series event’s star-studded line-up. DP World Tour regulars and other big-name European stars will populate the rest of the circuit’s flagship field. They will compete for the $10,000,000 prize purse on offer.
