Harry Higgs has appealed to the golf community to "be nice to each other" after the death of Grayson Murray. Higgs honored Murray after winning the 2024 Visit Knoxville Open at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tennesse.

Grayson Murray withdrew from the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge after playing 16 holes on Thursday, May 24. On Sunday, Murray's parents said in a statement that the golfer took his own life on Friday, May 25.

In his speech, Higgs mentioned the loss of Grayson Murray and how the latter had always been open about his struggles. Higgs said that he had a restless night contemplating how to honor Murray. He further said (via Korn Ferry Tour):

"Everyone that's here, one, thank you so much for receiving me and congratulating me and cheering me on throughout but this golf stuff and the result, it's lovely, sure but it's just it's not that meaningful."

Harry Higgs won the Knoxville Open in a playoff victory over Frankie Capan III. He scored an eagle to claim victory in the second playoff hole. He further said:

"One thing that I kind of thought last night, especially lying in bed is I would challenge everybody here, and I'm going to do this myself as well. Each day say something nice to someone you love and also make it a point to say something nice to somebody you don't even know."

Higgs further said that the world is difficult to live in and is increasingly becoming more challenging. He said that not everyone has a great support system and everyone can make a difference.

I've been blessed with great parents and a great support system and I haven't had other than some frustration at time, any battles mentally. But lord knows how many people do and it's only ever increasing so if we can, everybody here could be a difference. The difference. "

He ended his speech by thanking the people of Knoxville for being warm and gracious hosts.

Harry Higgs created history in Knoxville by becoming the first player to win consecutively in the Korn Ferry Tour in playoffs. He also solidified his return to the PGA Tour after his performance.
