Former LIV Golfer in for 'one of the hardest tests till date' at the Irish Open 2024

Bernd Wiesberger is gearing up for the 2024 Amgen Irish Open. The tournament will be held from Thursday, September 12 to 15 at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Down.

Wiesberger is looking for redemption after his return from LIV Golf earlier this year. The 38-year-old was among the original players who joined the Saudi breakaway Tour in 2022. He returned to the DP World Tour after registering only a single top-10 finish this year. Wiesberger finished 35th in 2022 and 41st in 2023.

Before the Amgen Irish Open, the Austrian player took to X and wrote:

"Walked all 18 holes at RCD (Royal County Down) this morning and then played 9 holes ProAm in the afternoon. This place is pure and with high winds like today we're in for one of the hardest tests to date. Should be an amazing week @IrishOpen_"

Since his return from LIV Golf, Bernd Wiesberger player has been seeking a revival on the European Tour, where he has had eight wins. The Austrian's last victory came in 2021 Made in HimmerLand. In an Instagram story, he wrote:

"Looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow here at Royal County Down."

Wiesberger retained his DP World Tour card despite the Tour's legal victory against LIV golfers. LIV Golf paid a record $1.9 million fine to ease his return to the tour.

Wiesberger left the Tour as a top-100 player in the OWGR rankings, this year he has climbed from 563rd to 188th, though he hasn't regained his previous ranking.
