In January 2024, Saban retired as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide after 17 seasons. In February, he became an analyst on ESPN's College GameDay. On a podcast episode of Gravy & The Sleeze on SiriusXM PGA Tour, Thomas said that he initially thought that Saban would perform well on the show but wasn't certain as it's hard to predict what side of a person’s personality will emerge.

"But I think at the end of the day, when he gets to talk about something that he loves like football he's obviously extremely knowledgeable of it. And so closely removed, I think he knows how the game is right now to where he brings a lot of value, but he is hysterical," Justin Thomas said (via SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio 0:25).

Thomas further talked about the chemistry between Nick Saban and Pat McAfee and called it the "wildest thing ever." He said:

"I think the fact that him and Pat McAfee are next to each other is just the wildest thing ever. And the difference of their personalities and whatnot. And some of like the still pictures of the way coach is looking over at him when Pat has some things that are coming out of his mouth. It's pretty funny, but they are quite the team for sure." (0:38)

Saban often appeared as a guest on Pat McAfee's show even when he was Alabama's coach. He credited McAfee for helping him on the show and making him less anxious. He said (via PatMcAfeeShow on X):

"You've (Pat McAfee) made it a lot easier on me, though. Sitting by you makes it easier for me, because I'm less anxious because you are very aggressive in whatever we're talking about and whatever we're doing," Nick Saban said.

Talking about their friendship, Saban said that Thomas doesn't give him any strokes or handicap advantages in friendly golf games.

"Everybody asks me, 'How many shots does he give you?' and I say, ‘He doesn’t give me any; he's always my partner.'"

Thomas finished 71st on the FedExCup standings in 2023. He received an enormous support from Saban during his slump. He said:

"Justin Thomas is a great person, great family … He’s a hard worker. I know he had to overcome some adversity last year, but he’s done it like a trooper, and I think he’s going to have a great year this year."
