Tiger Woods is probably the greatest golfer of his time. However, the golfer’s legacy has often been under scrutiny due to the controversies surrounding him. One person who still believes that Woods deserves all the praise in the world is his caddie Joe LaCava.

Ahead of the 2023 Masters, LaCava came out to laud his long-time employer and his ‘giving’ nature. Opening up about the four-time Masters champion, the ace caddie said that ‘he’s done so many good things that people don’t know about.’ Emphasizing his point, LaCava went on to reveal some personal stories from the past which had Woods extending some warm gestures to him and his family.

Speaking to the New York Post about Tiger Woods, caddie Joe LaCava revealed that the legendary golfer gifted him a ‘flashy’ Rolex watch after his fifth Masters victory. He went on to open up about the time Woods set up his beach house in Florida for the caddie’s wife, Megan, and daughter Lauren to celebrate her birthday. Apparently, he arranged for surprise birthday balloons, presents, and lunch on his yacht.

LaCava also revealed that Woods once casually mentioned that he’d built a library for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital while visiting a fundraiser. Lauding Woods, LaCava said:

“He’s done so many of those things that people don’t know about.”

Furthermore, the caddie went on to reveal that Woods had some fun conversations with his fans on Monday at Augusta. He claimed that the 47-year-old threw an errant tee shot past Fred Couples’ ball and met with Augusta National Women’s Amateur champ Rose Zhang and Drive, Chip, and Putt winners on the greens.

LaCava said that “Tiger would’ve never done that years ago,” suggesting the changes the golfer has gone through over the years.

Joe LaCava on Tiger Woods' injuries

It is pertinent to note that the caddie’s comments come just days ahead of Tiger Woods’ Masters outing. While many claim that this could be his last Augusta outing, it’s noteworthy that Woods himself hinted at the same. Now, LaCava also revealed that the ace golfer’s health condition is bad and he wouldn’t be playing if it wasn’t for the Masters.

He said:

“He’s pretty banged up. If it wasn’t Augusta he probably wouldn’t be playing. … He still has the power, the swing speed, the shots and the length to contend. The injury is devastating, but if he could take a cart he could contend tomorrow.”

However, it’s pertinent to note that Tiger Woods still won’t be in the cart for the first round Thursday morning. The ace golfer will be walking alongside his caddie with the pain. It’ll be interesting to see how the star golfer fairs at Augusta this time around.
