How did Rory McIlroy perform in the US Open 2025, Round 2?

Rory McIlroy had another tough day at the US Open 2025 as he shot a 2-over 72 in the second round. Thanks to a late surge, he managed to finish inside the cutline.

On Friday, June 13, Rory McIlroy entered Oakmont Country Club after shooting 4-over in the opening round. He began the day with a double bogey and then missed a 14-foot putt on the 3rd hole to make another double bogey. He didn’t record a birdie until the ninth hole, closing the front nine at 38.

On the back nine, the 36-year-old golfer bogeyed the 11th hole but ensured that was his last error of the day. With birdies on the 15th and 18th, he finished at 2-over for the day and 6-over after 36 holes. If not for those two birdies, he might have missed the weekend at Oakmont.

Following the second day, Rory McIlroy is nine strokes off the leader, Sam Burns, who fired a 65 to take the 36-hole lead. J.J. Spaun slipped to second after shooting a 2-over 72 on Friday.
