How did the USA women’s golf team perform at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics? Nelly Korda and others’ scores explored

Nelly Korda won the gold medal in the women's golf event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She won by one shot over Japanese golfer Mone Inami.

The event was held at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, Japan from August 3 to 7, 2021.

Jessica Korda, Danielle King and Lexi Thompson represented Team USA at the women's golf event along with Nelly Korda, who emerged victorious after carding 67, 62, 69 and 69 in the four rounds. She finished with a score of 17-under 267. Talking about the winning moment, she said (via LPGA):

"I didn’t really know what emotions I was going to have until I stood on the stage. As a kid, I watched so many athletes and all their raw emotions on that podium when their flag goes up and the national anthem (plays) and when I finally got to do it myself, there was a massive rush of emotions that go through me."

"I had a couple tears roll down my face. It was an amazing experience, obviously, and I cherish and I'm grateful for every situation I'm in, every single time I can go down the stretch and I'm in contention," she added.

Jessica Korda, the six-time LPGA Tour winner, finished with a score of 9-under 275 and tied for 15th. Kang, another six-time LPGA Tour winner, tied for 20th. Lexi Thompson, the 15-time LPGA Tour winner, finished 33rd after scoring 3-under 281.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang will be representing Team USA in the women's golf event along with Nelly Korda, who will be looking to defend her title. She said about her second consecutive appearance at the Games:

"Doesn't really feel like I'm defending, really. I'm just going to go out, enjoy the experience, hopefully enjoy the fans. The men had amazing fans out here. I was wowed by how many people are out here watching and just happy that I'm back in this position. I'm here representing my country. I'm a two-time Olympian and I'm living out my dream."

The women's golf event will begin on Wednesday, August 7. Korda will tee off at 9:55 a.m. local time with Jin Young Ko of Korea and Ruoning Yin of China.

Lilia Vu will tee off at 11:55 a.m. local time with Celine Boutier of France and Amy Yang of Korea. Rose Zhang will tee off at 9:44 a.m. local time with Hannah Green of Australia and Charley Hull of Great Britain.
