Rory McIlroy's game has been heavily affected by his increased workload in recent times. Although the Northern Irish golfer did not join the controversial LIV Golf series, his performances have been affected by his involvement in the rollout of the PGA Tour's revamped structure this week.

The current World No. 3 missed the cut at the Players Championship, which is underway at the TPC Sawgrass from March 9 to March 12.

Rory McIlroy is now more focused on his game and is practicing for the Masters, which will take place in April. Speaking about his game in an interview with the Golf Channel, he said that he will now only be focused on golf. McIlroy said:

"I’m ready to get back to being purely a golfer.”

Rory McIlroy also spoke about the time management that affected his performance. He said:

“Yeah, it’s just the time management. The golf out here, that’s fine, but it’s just more the time at home to make sure you’re getting prepared, to make sure that you’re doing everything you can to be ready once you show up to these weeks. That’s where I’ve maybe sacrificed a little bit of time with some of this other stuff."

He went on to say:

“I’d love to get back to being a golfer, yeah. Look, it’s been a busy couple of weeks, and it’s been, honestly, it’s been a busy sort of six or eight months. But as I said at the start of the week, everything has sort of been announced now, and the wheels have been put in motion, so it should obviously quiet down from here.”

“I just think Rory is tired"- Paul McGinley talks about Rory McIlroy's performance

Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley believes Rory McIlroy's performance has deteriorated due to his extra responsibilities. McGinley said that the tiredness and fatigue from his increased workload has impacted his performance.

In an interview with the Golf Channel, McGinley said:

“One of the features of his golf over the past 14 months has been his ability to focus. We’ve admired this from a distance, with everything going on and him front and center. It’s quite incredible what he’s achieved. I just think Rory is tired and the battery is down. We saw some clumsiness from him here and that’s a sign that you’re not focused.”

McGinley went on to talk about the changes made by the PGA Tour. The American Tour announced eight new designated events scheduled to be included in the 2024 season.

He went on to say:

"This is not Rory’s Tour. It’s not Tiger’s Tour. It’s not Jay Monahan’s Tour. This tour is owned by the players, and if this is going to work and these new ‘designated events’ are going to work, everybody has got to go row in behind. They can’t just have one spokesperson and let him take all the bullets. Everybody has got to be in there supporting and driving this ship forward.”

Rory McIlroy is preparing for the Masters, which will take place in April at Augusta National Golf Course. Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, has registered his lead after the third round of The Players Championship.
