“I thrive on weekends like this” – Shane Lowry stoked to compete for the PGA Championship 2023 title

Shane Lowry started poorly at the 2023 PGA Championship, carding 3-over 73 on Thursday. Nevertheless, he made quite a return on the second day with 67, helping him jump 46 places to T10.

It was Lowry's best-putting performance of the season. The 2019 British Open champion holed in seven birdies on Friday, making 100 feet of putts.

"I stood on the first tee in practice and said I like this place," Lowry described his second round play, as per The Independent. "I was like, I fancy this place. I was disappointed with yesterday, but I knew it was only one day."

The 36-year-old Irish golfer believes that if somehow he goes under par after getting through nine holes on Sunday, anything can happen.

"It is a big day tomorrow. I thrive on weekends like this," he said.

The scoreline could have been much better if he had not dug in two bogeys on the last two holes on Friday.

"Two bogeys finish is disappointing," explained Lowry. "I got to four over after six holes, but look, we got a bit fortunate with the wind dying down, the bit of rain wasn't nice, but it made it play a little bit easier.
"I played well around the turn, made some great birdies. Couple of poor tee shots on 17, 18, but that's what happens on this course," he added.

Lowry will look to narrow down the 5-stroke difference between him and table toppers Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners, and Viktor Hovland.
