Before Caitlin Clark tees off at the 2024 Annika Pro-Am event, she prayed that she wouldn't hit anyone with her golf ball. The event, driven by Gainbridge, will begin at 7 am ET on November 13 and will be held at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
In conversation with NBC's Lauren Thompson, ahead of the Pro-Am event, Clark hoped that she wouldn't accidentally hit anyone with a golf ball. She said, via ASAP Sports:
"I don't want to hit anyone with a golf ball. That's my number one priority."
When Thompson said that it was going to be a "pretty crowded gallery" at the Pro-Am event, the WNBA star remarked.
"That doesn't help."
Caitlin Clark will be competing in her second Pro-Am event. She has competed in the John Deere Classic last year. Talking about it, she said:
"Oh, gosh, that was probably a couple years ago now. I was pretty nervous. I'll probably be nervous tomorrow, too. I don't know. I mean, I remind myself, like I don't really care what happens. Doesn't really matter. I don't play golf for a living. Just have fun with it. This isn't super serious."
Clark is paired with two professionals, LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam and LPGA's Player of the Year Nelly Korda. She expressed her fondness for golf in the pre-event press conference. When asked what was her lowest round, she said:
"Oh, God. I can get in the mid-'80s if I'm lucky. Yeah, usually I'm just praying to break 100."
Two business personalities, Dan Towriss and Jason Rickard will also tee along with Clark, Korda and Sorenstam.
Caitlin Clark wants to play at Pebble Beach Golf Links
In the pre-event press conference, Caitlin Clark was also asked if there are any courses she would like to play in the future. She answered:
"Gosh, there are a lot. I would love to play Pebble. Honestly, anywhere. I'm open to any of them. Wherever I can get on. Going to Arizona for Thanksgiving. Play a few there. That will be fun with my family. Haven't been on vacation since the season ended. It will be a nice break for me."
Pebble Beach Golf Links hosts the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Clark further said:
"When I have time I love to play golf. It's just when the time opens up and I can travel and go play places, I love being outside and playing new places. Honestly, wherever."
At the end of the 2024 WNBA season for her team Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark said that she'd become a professional golfer in the off-season. However, she clarified that she was not serious about her statement. She added that she just loved being outside and making it competitive with her friends.
