“If one wants to stop and ask…”: Fred Couples not backing down from his previous attack on LIV players

Fred Couples, a former no. 1 and golfer with 64 professional wins, doesn't seem to back off from commenting on LIV Golf players. He has been on a full take on the show since the start of LIV Golf, commenting on players who left the PGA tour for the money.

As per Sports Illustrated's report, Fred recently spoke in an interview about how he has no issues with LIV golfers joining him at the Masters Dinner. He said,

"I'm not expecting anything different. I sit in a great spot, so I'm down by all the beautiful people that I've sat with, and it's not that the other ones aren't, but I'm saying (Jack) Nicklaus, Tiger, (Raymond) Floyd, myself, Sandy Lyle, and then right to the head of the table. So for 20 years almost Raymond has told me where to sit and how to do it, and I'm not near a whole lot of people."

However, in his previous remarks on LIV players, Couple stated that he does not regret it and that he was just replying to the comments made by them,

"If one wants to stop and ask why I'm picking on them, then I'm all for it, but I don't really think I've done anything horrific. They're making comments and I'm replying to them. That's it."

Fred Couples come up with quirky remarks on LIV players ahead of the 2023 Masters Dinner

The 1992 Masters Champion Fred Couples is slated to be at the 2023 Masters Dinner on April 4. In a recent interview, he again took a stance on six LIV players who were previous Masters champions, attending the dinner and later the 2023 Augusta Masters.

Speaking on pairing with Phil Mickelson, Fred said,

"I would love to be paired with Phil. I mean, he's one of the best players that ever played. He loves this place as much as I do, and if we did (get paired), we'd look at each other on the first hole and we'd have a good time."

Fred Couples recently made some highly controversial remarks about Mickelson and Sergio Garcia. On that note, Fred said that he does not regret anything and that they should focus on golf instead of making comments on the PGA Tour.

"I've made comments, but they need to understand if they've looked at anything I've ever said, I call myself the same stuff I'm calling them, I just don't think they should bash the PGA Tour or anybody, just go play golf."

Fred Couples feels that if anyone makes a remark on a Tour in which he has invested 43 years of his life, he will not stay quiet. He went on to say that Garcia is one of the top 10 players and they are all golfers just like him. But making comments on the PGA Tour would offend him and he would not stay quiet.
