Rickie Fowler has never won a Major. He's come in second place in all of them except the PGA Championship, where he finished third. A T2 at the 2014 US Open, which he lost by eight strokes to Martin Kaymer, remains one of his closest instances to victory.
Without having won any Majors, it gets harder to get into the field for them once you're well removed from that outing. It has been seven years since Fowler was that high on the leaderboard in any Major, which makes qualifying hard. Fowler is not in the field at the US Open, meaning he'll have to wait again to attempt winning his first Major title. The American actually got exempted into the PGA Championship, but he missed the cut.
However, he did do well at the Charles Schwab Challenge and Memorial Tournament. Fowler did well enough to cement his place in the field in next month's Open Championship.
The golfer was aiming to get a US Open spot through final qualifying at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club. He played his way into a five-man playoff there but lost to Cameron Young on the first playoff hole, thus killing his chances. He otherwise does not qualify.
Others in Fowler's boat include Max Homa, Sergio Garcia, Luke Clanton, Billy Horschel, Will Zalatoris and Alex Noren. Tiger Woods is also out due to injury, so the field is missing a few prominent names.
Despite missing US Open, Rickie Fowler was feeling good
2025 started off pretty poorly for Rickie Fowler, the same way 2024 did. He's past his prime when he would place highly in Majors, and he now has to work to just qualify for them. Still, his game had appeared to be rounding into form before the missed cut at the PGA and the heartbreaking qualifier.

He said two weeks ago via Golfweek:
“Body is starting to feel better, and the game, I feel like it's been in a good spot and not very far off. It's a fine line out here. Nice to see things starting to come together a bit.”
He did well at Colonial, the home of the Charles Schwab Challenge. Rickie Fowler said:
“It's a fun golf course. It's not one that you can necessarily go out and overpower. There's a few holes where you can kind of let it loose. Other than that, it's much more position golf."
That tournament helped him get into the fourth and final Major of the year, meaning he will get to play in two. Fowler was not in the Masters Tournament which saw Rory McIlroy win and complete the career Grand Slam.
