Charley Hull held a press conference on Thursday, September 12, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, home of the 2024 Solheim Cup. The Englishwoman was joined by teammates Georgia Hall and Emily Kristine Pedersen.
Hull spoke about a variety of topics, including her fans and the number of followers she has on social media. One reporter asked her opinion on why fans identify with her so much, to which she replied that it was because she is "herself" despite the criticism:
"I'm just myself. I just - I'm myself. If I like things I like it for myself. Other people don't like it, well, it's not their life. I live me. I live my life the way I want to live it, not how anyone else wants me to live it. I think just literally just live like a normal person."
Hull has seen her popularity on social media skyrocket in recent months. She currently has over 85,900 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and over 625,000 followers on Instagram.
However, Hull has also been occasionally criticized for some of her non-sporting habits. The one that has received the most attention lately is her smoking habit, especially on the course.
During the press conference, Charley Hull also revealed that all of her social media activity is handled by her manager. She said that she had not personally accessed her profiles for more than six months.
She did, however, appreciate the number of fans who follow her, which she believes helps the visibility of the tour.
