Jon Rahm revealed that he sought advice from his LIV Golf teammate Tyrrell Hatton for this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Spanish golfer teed it up at the ongoing DP World Tour event, which began on Thursday, 3 October, with its first round. Rahm returned to compete in a regular DP World event for the first time after joining LIV Golf.

For this week's event, the two-time Major winner said in a post-tournament press conference, after the first round, that he asked for advice from Hatton, who also joined LIV Golf earlier this year after signing a reported deal worth around $65 million. The English golfer has won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship twice and has extensive experience playing on the greens.

Speaking of Hatton, Rahm said, via ASAP Sports:

"I lean on the knowledge ever a two-time Dunhill championship Champion, Tyrrell Hatton, and I asked him and in the words of Tyrrell, just hit driver over every bunker into the rough, and lob-wedge into the green. I was like, okay, and that's basically what I did. Missed it in all the right spots."

"My first fairway on the front nine was the 17th and I was 3-under, right. It's a bit of what you can do when it's not an Open Championship setup. The rough is a little bit lower so you can be aggressive and have short irons into the greens, and that's what I did today," he added.

Jon Rahm started strong at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He shot a round of 7-under 65 on the first day, settling into a tie for 12th place.

In the same press conference, while discussing the advice he received from Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm also opened up about his first-round performance at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He had a strong start, shooting four birdies on the front nine, followed by two birdies and an eagle on the back nine. However, he also recorded a bogey on the 17th, finishing with a score of 7-under 65.

Speaking of his performance, Rahm said, via ASAP Sports:

"On the front nine it was better off the tee. I found myself in the fairway for the most part and was able to be aggressive. You know, I avoided disasters, two holes, on 4 and 5."

"Made a great par on 4, and lucky on 5 that I hit it bad enough that my ball stayed short enough of the bunker on the fairway. Made two pars but could have been a lot worse. Pivotal moment of the round there, and was able to make sure it wasn't a mistake," he added.

Notably, Tyrrell Hatton is also playing in the DP World Tour event and secured the 12th spot after the first round, tied with Rahm, John Parry, Filippo Celli, Adrien Saddier, and Nicolas Colsaerts. The four-day event will conclude with the final round on Sunday, 6 October.
