The Players Championship has unveiled its featured group, including the world's top three golfers in the same group. Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy are tied together in the same group for the upcoming tournament.

Interestingly, Max Homa, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas are also paired in the same group for the 2023 Players Championship.

Rahm arrives at the PGA Tour's flagship event as the top-ranked player for the second consecutive year, with the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions winner looking to build up another impressive streak at the tournament.

He will go head-on-head with some of the best golfers in the world while starting the opening round alongside Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

The Spaniard has won three PGA Tours dating back to the beginning of January and is hoping to clinch the fourth one this week. Impressively, he topped the leaderboard in the opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational before being shipped down to finish at 39th position after the final round.

Rory McIlroy also competed at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished in a two-way tie alongside Harris English to end the day with a score of under 8. Scottie Scheffler finished in fourth position in the tournament. Interestingly, the trio will take their first shot at The Players Championship together.

The Players Championship 2023 details explored

The 2023 Players Championship will kick start this week at TPC Sawgrass. The tournament has the most prominent field of the year, featuring forty-three of the top 50 world-ranked players.

Around 30 golfers will have their first taste of the tournament, including the latest addition to the top 50 world rankings, Min Woo Lee.

It is pertinent to note that last week's winners at the Puerto Rico Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational will also be headlining the Players Championship.

Rory McIlroy will definitely look to clinch a second Players Championship trophy, while Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler will look for their first win on the course.

Unfortunately, last year's champion Cameron Smith will not return to defend his title as he has joined the rival LIV Golf series. Notably, the Players Championship does not have a defending champion, and with the absence of an Australian golfer from the field, history will be repeated for the time being.

The Players Championship will be televised on the Golf Channel starting on Thursday with the opening round, followed by the last two rounds on NBC on Saturday and Sunday.
