The PGA Tour will commence its ninth event of the 2023 season at the Grand Reserve Golf Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on March 2 and continue until March 5.

Conducted annually in March, the 15th edition of the Puerto Rican Open will take place simultaneously with the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge with higher prize money than the latter.

The PGA Tour event hosts many of the world's top players, including eight Puerto Rican pros, and is the only event in the series that's been held in Puerto Rico since its inauguration in 2008.

Purse Size

The 120-player tournament that's being sponsored primarily by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company has an open purse of $3.8 million with the winner earning $684,000. In addition to the handsome payout, the winner will also earn 300 FedEx Cup points.

The winner shall receive a standard prize of 18 percent of the payout that's been planned for the 65 pro golfers who make the cut and complete the tournament. Usually, in PGA Tour events, the formula for the payout is based on the number of golfers who compete and the ties that the tournament sees through its course, with monetary additions to the purse correspondingly.

Designed by 19-time PGA Champion Tom Kite, the field at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, where the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open will take place, is located east of San Juan in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The course is a long expanse with par 72 measuring 7,506 yards beside the two par 5s on the back nine measuring a minimum of 600 yards. The club previously hosted the Latin American Amateur Championship in January this year, where Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira won the title, leading by four shots.

The tournament hasn't witnessed any back-to-back winners so far, but two impressive records have been achieved on its greens: the 72 hole record made by Chesson Hadley in 2014 and the 18 hole record by Jhonattan Vegas in 2020.

Where will the event be telecast?

The tournament can be viewed on television for all four days of its duration from March 2-5, 2023 on the Golf Channel. Subscriptions that are free of cost on the PGA Tour Live and ESPN+ forums enable the sport's enthusiasts to obtain the tournament's status and score live.

Signing up for a free trial in fuboTV is another alternative option to watch the internationally televised Open.
